1) They are what I deem 'monosexuals' and simply can't imagine anything outside of their own experience. They "get" homosexuality, because it's their same feelings, just towards the same sex, but bisexuality . . . too far out, there, man! They think we bisexuals must be lying to ourselves.

2) Because, unfortunately, many gay and lesbian people come out firstly as bisexual, either because of their own confusion or purposefully lying in order to 'soften the blow', somehow. Then, when they later exclusively have an attraction towards only one sex, it's assumed that they finally "chose"- meaning that bisexuality isn't a real sexual orientation, but a wavering between the only two that exist.

3) Because many high-profile people use it casually, so that it doesn't seem real. Lots of straight girls dabble in bisexual behavior in order to turn guys on or be silly. Madonna and Britney kissed and a million people engage in bisexual behavior but 'revert' back to straightness- making people assume it isn't anything real.

4) Because it threatens them. Homophobic people who fear their own desires are ultimately threatened by bisexuality, which means you can like both sexes. That's giving them too much freedom to possibly be one of the hated GLBT people they despise, so they vehemently protest bisexuality's existence.

5) Because we are the most maligned group out there, it seems! Bisexuals are called confused, greedy, 'in a phase', indecisive, wanting to have their cake and eat it, too, sex-addicted nymphomaniacs, commitment-phobic cheaters, the spreaders of disease from the gay community to straight, etc., etc.. People get a really bad impression of us, and the more maligned we get, the more people are willing to say we aren't real.

6) Bi-invisibility. Because most bisexuals are monogamous, and choose to date only one person at a time, and because many have a preference for one sex over the other and often date that one, people don't "see" bisexuality. You can see a million bisexual people together in heterosexual couplings, and you'd think they were all straight, you know? Unless someone tells you (and many don't), you assume they are either gay or straight, based on who they're dating, and since we fade into invisiblity, people think we don't exist.

And so on. C'mon people- realize it- bisexuality is a real, valid sexual orientation.

Heterosexuals are attracted to the opposite sex, homosexuals are attracted to the same sex. Being bi is like being both at the same time to them and they just can't seem to accept that.

I really don't understand why everyone wants us to have a distinguishable preference. What's so wrong with not basing attraction off of gender, seems alright to me. The worst part is you will find people who try to label us as either homo or heterosexual, it's like they are mad at us for confusing them but want to recruit us at the same time. I guess people are just weird that way.

Bi-sexual is a label that society has given to people who indulge in sexual activities with the same sex. What it all boils down to is homosexuality. People say that men who like men are gay and women who like women are lesbians. Bi's, gays and lesbians are all still homosexuals.

Because they don't know any better, or they just refuse to believe that some people can be attracted to the opposite sex, and the same sex at the same time.

Who told you that?

Anyone who subscribes to that theory likes things neatly compartmentalized. We all have to fit in a category. If you have parents of two different ethnicities, you have to check one box on questionaires.

Because people prefer things to be black or white not shades of gray. They want it to be easy to judge harshly.

I've heard that response before and it is as bigoted as telling a gay person they aren't born that way.

Don't listen to it... Be who you are.
