I have three-piece Altec speakers. I hook the system up with an USB and I could hear all the sounds on the internet I want and don't want.

You really need to give more information. Do you have speakers? Most likely you already have a sound card installed when you got the pc, so just plug the speakers into the speaker jacks on the back of the pc. If your question is why doesn't your pc give sound anymore, then check your connections, volume control, windows volume control (make sure mute is not checked) and see if your audio driver is working in windows device manager.

Install a sound card, plug it in and turn it up.
