first turn them inside out to avoid fading them too soon.

Wash in hot, hot water and stick in the dryer on high.

100% cotton (otherwise known as "rigid denim") will shrink more than denim mixed with spandex (or stretch jeans). either way, you'll get them to shrink up a bit.

remember, cotton denim stretches out the more you wear it by virtue of it's very nature. everytime you wash them they will feel tighter and will soften the more you wear them. Good luck!

I read a description of Lenny Bruce's technique for shrinking his jeans, I believe it was in his biography:

Remove the main stitches on the sides and inner thighs of the jeans. Mark your measurements and resew the seams for a "skintight" fit (you should probably leave an inch or two of clearance actually).

I'm sure it's a lot harder than it sounds. Much easier to launder in hot water and dry with heat, but that won't work for all denims whereas Bruce's technique will.

It depends on the fabric, but you could try washing them at least twice before they shrink. If that doesn't work, it is probably made out of a really good material that won't shrink unless you do something to it or wait a couple of months.

Put them in a pillow case and wash it in hot water. Take the jeans out of the pillow case and dry it on high in the dryer until it's completely dry. From my experience, it doesn't work as well without a pillow case.

Wash them in hot water, then put them in the dryer..They will shrink like hell..You could wash them in hot water and then, when they cool, put them on...They will shrink to fit your butt......Keep them on 'till they dry...

Wash them in hot water and then put them in the dryer. But make sure you don't fade them!
