No, simply because alcohol isn't illegal would be one reason why I would imagine. Alot of religions use wine in their sacrament/communion ceremonies. However, as a youth my church didn't allow underage people to engage in real wine, they used grape juice or water.
What's wrong with your friends dad... Jesus drank wine.

I have been to churches that use real wine. It isn't illegal, because it is a religious right. A lot of churches do however use grape juice, because it is cheaper and it is representative of the wine (which is strangely enough representative of Christ's blood)... Just as some churches do not use real bread, but those little wafers.. Besides, alcohol isn't good for you. We don't have to drink it anymore because it is safe to drink the water. However some churches still feel it necessary to use real wine and bread and there is nothing illegal or wrong with that. They are in their eyes being more observant.

Separation of Church and State
A state or federal agency is not going to prosecute a church for anything that may be construed as part of a religions rituals, practices or beliefs. While giving alcohol to a minor is normally a crime, it would not violate any law for a child to be given wine as say part of Catholic mass when you partake in the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, or something similar.
I am Catholic and so that is what I am equating your question to since I am not intimately familiar with another religion that does this.

He could be referring to serving alcohol to minors, which is illegal.
Since they give you so little, I doubt the police would do anything.

If its dangerous they will. Religious people have been tried before when they refuse to get their children medical attention and after a person died handling snakes during a church ceremony.

as a results of non secular magnitude of serving wine, it somewhat is legal. oftentimes church homes do serve "authentic" wine, yet as a results of fact it somewhat is blessed by the Sacrament of the Eucharist, it, in some ideals is and/or symbolizes the blood of Christ. putting that into recommendations, it then would not replace into lots approximately alcohol.

Where I come from it is only illegal to sell wine without a licence or to a minor - not to give it away.
