It does sound like a virus. If an antivirus application like AVAST can't remove it, then you will have to do some research to see if you can identify the virus & remove it by deleting it where it resides. Otherwise, backup up your data, format your hard disk & reinstall your operating system (Windows).

Sounds like you have multiple problems from more than one bug. If you want to try to solve the problem w/o rebooting your system, you might want to try a free version of anti-spyware from Ad-aware. I have used it in the past but after I rebooted my computer I had no problems and didnt need to download it. As of right now, I am using the Yahoo! Toolbar which has a pop up blocker and norton spyware protection built into it.
If you want to spend money on protection just go down to a Walmart and buy Norton System works or any other reputable company's product. I personally like to use Norton but the scans can take a while to complete. Hope you have a bug free, happy new year.

Sounds like you have some adware installed on your computer. Do some research on the computer about different kinds of adware and check your computer for the related files. One of the best virus programs/internet security systems would have to be Norton, and though it's expensive, it's a good investment. It has adjustable pop-up and ad blockers, top-notch virus scanner, and keeps your computer updated on what it is susceptible to and what is required to be protected from those susceptibilities.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

Download and run AVG Free Edition and Ad-Aware SE Personal, also free. Sounds like a trojan. Usually easy to remove with one or the other of these programs. Here's the links for downloading.

Ad-Aware

Lastly, if you don't already use Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, here's a link for downloading it. Firefox is much more secure than Internet Explorer.

and for browsers, u can get google pop-up blocker. Don't use Internet Explorer. Use Firefox and unleash the power of it.

A virus does not produce pop-ups. A worm does.

You need to scan for spyware on your pc as well. I'd suggest ad-aware to start.
