the very best cleaning product is the following - formulated by a window washer of skyscrapers. I've used it, and I concur

Mix the following in a spray bottle:
1 cup windex
1 cup vinegar
1/2 teaspoon of sunlight dish detergent.

gently swish alltogether until blended, spray windows and wipe with paper towel.

edit: PS - we purchased a new school building last summer that had been vacant for over 3 years. You can imagine how grimy the windows were. We used this mixture and viola the windows are sparkling clean.

I manage a hotel and my housekeeping staff uses vinegar & water and black & white newspapers to clean glass doors, windows and mirrors. This method is very cost effective.

Either Windex or plain ammonia - use a newspaper to clean it and you don't get any lint on the glass.

Alcohol or vinegar. Or both.

After reading another answer, I'm reminded that dish detergent is quite effective also.
