Can you find his SSN? That would be the easiest way...claim that you're his ex or child looking for him. Call up Kansas City - they have all military records.
Good luck!

There is a web sight called cyberseals.org. These guys make a living out of investigating fraudulant "seal" claims. Most people that claim to be seals in the navy... were not. The last thing a seal ever does is brag about being a navy seal. If the guy ever says that he graduated with a classified class, he's full of BS. Ask him what seal stands for (sea air & land). Alot of the people that are full of BS dont know that. Anyhow, he's probably a phony. Good luck. Oh - the DD214 will state whether or not he was in Special ops.

Get a rattlesnake and have him bite the head off. If he won't do it, he is not SEAL material.
Get a M-16 and have him field strip it and reassemble it. If he can't do it in less than 90 seconds, he is not SEAL material.
Look for a SEAL tatoo. No tatoo, he ain't a SEAL.

It happens that men who never served regret that so much that they fabricate yarns about their days in combat from hearing authetic accounts.
In my brother's VFW in Cody, Wy. there was a man who was full of tails about his service with the Marines in Korea. I taught Military History in a major university for 35 years, and was in Korea in '51-'53, and when I heard him, it was at once evident that he was a complete fraud. When he could present no documentation and no record was found he was kicked out. So he beat up his girl friend and left town.
It is not uncommon. Think how much Dick Cheney and all the "chicken hawks" in the White House would like to have a record of service to cover their blunder in getting 3,000 kids killed.

Ask him to show you his DD Form 214. Military occupation and major awards are outlined on it. It is the most important document a veteran can have. If he claims he lost it, you know he's not telling the truth.

Take him in the woods and tell him to make a campfire with his bare hands.....see if he can do it. Next take him to a pool and tell him to do......60 laps.... if he can't do any of these, he's a poseur.
