if you areanswering this question you probably already answer the ones i posted a couple of minutes ago. my question now or my issue is that my 26 day old baby seems to eat so much he is breast feeding for 20 minutes and drinking 3 oz of formula everytime he eats i thought it could be a growth spour ( sorry if misspelled) but he has been eating like this for the past two weeks, i'm worried because i dont know if maybe i'm over feeding him or i' not recognising the difference between hes needs to suck and hunger, please tell me how much food did you feed your baby at this age, and when can i start increasing the amount of formula, i should also tell you that he eats every 3 h ours on the clock !!

Have you pumped to see how much milk you have because if you dont have enough milk then he will be hungry??? Just a guess.

Every baby is different, if you feed him to much he'll throw it up, so if he's keeping it down don't be too concerned. Breast feed him and if you think he is full try a pacifier (I couldn't get any of my children to take one), but you can dip it (tip) in light Caro syrup this seems to help. Let him suck for 15 20 mins if he still wants food give him a bottle or breast feed again. I put just a touch of baby cereal in their formula (I also breast fed), to give it a little substance. They slept better and ate less often. Be careful with the syrup as this can lead to a sweet tooth later on. If the Dr. says your baby is within the normal weight range then your doing good...:) Happy Mothering

now the thing is are you 100& sure that he's getting plenty of milk during each breastfeeding...(to check ever so often unlatch him and check if he has nilk in his mouth and if it does continue to come out easily from your nipple, remeber to breastfeed on both sides for at least 15 mins) then check if he doesnt have any problems suckling (like a tongue thats too short or to tight) my neighbor had that prob so the baby seemed to be eating all day cause it never got enough.

A baby that's almost a month old should be having 4-5 oz of formula every 4hrs or so...if you can try and pump for about the time your baby would feed to see if you are producing enough...you'll know if your over feeding if the baby is constantly spitting up. remember babies dont know how much to eat and when theyre full...we decide for them until they get the hang of things.

A baby that's a month old should be taking 2-3 oz per feeding...every 2-3 hours. Don't let baby sleep more then 4 hours without feeding...its very crucial...her blood sugar can drop if you dont keep her fed every 4 hours.

I breastfed and didn't ever know how much my son was getting...so I made it a point to pump and give him the milk in a bottle once a day...just so I knew how much I was producing and how much he was getting...ALSO...if you try this...do it the last feeding at night before you put baby down to sleep...she might sleep her 4 hours...get into the routine...play...bath...bottle...sleep.

Dont worry about overfeeding your infant. Babies' bodies have a wonderful way of knowing what they need. If you baby is happy at the breast and happy with the bottle, then he is hungry. If he fusses or pushes it away, then he has had enough. Dont worry about overfeeding. Babies need as much nourishment as they can get and they will stop when they have had enough. Let your baby tell you what he needs.

Especially with breast feeding, you just have no idea how much he is getting. Let him be your guide. If he takes the breast/bottle then he is hungry.

our son wasn't breastfed, but he ate like a maniac from day one. his pediatrician and his GI (stomach) doctor both told us that they need at least 3 oz of formula for each pound they weigh. In other words if he weighs 10 lb he needs 30 oz. of formula day. I don't know how much breast milk your baby is getting, but if it was formula fed only, that is how you figure it out.

my daughter eats every three hours too but she eats six ounces every 3 hours so your best bet might be to pump so you can see how much he is getting per feeding. i didnt answer this before so i really hope this helps. good luck.
