In society today sometimes its hard to go up to someone and just say something politely. People might say your mad, hawker etc.
Do you think the internet has made people less social in a way that it may give security that no one knows you but just closes you in a world of your own?

Yes, I think you are correct. We interact with all kinds of people on the Internet that we would probably never interact with in real life. Here I am answering your question - I don't know you and you don't know me. The Internet also allows us the luxury and freedom of interacting with people we don't know and allows those who cannot get out for various reasons to have some semblance of contact with society. So in some ways the Internet has actually allowed people to be more social, while having less physical human contact.

Totally- I remember in 1983 when I moved to a new home, a bunch of neighbors stopped by and brought us cookies and introduced themselves. Within 10 years, no one did that anymore. Last year my roomie tried taking cookies to our apt building, and no one was even home, but only 1 person said thanks. I think that there is a mistrust of people today. So much bad stuff happens by people that seemed so "nice" WE are suspicious of everyone that we don't know.

We don't have as many social events either. Remember back in the day, barn raisings? The whole town got together and had a great social day, and maybe a square dance. Now, we sit at home, alone, watching tv or surfing the 'net. We have all this individual entertainment that we've lost the socialization of the past.

I suspect that the internet has made people who are already less social more isolated from society. Perhaps it allows them to interact passively with other people like themselves which is better than no,or next to none, interaction with others.

i think we're still social. the internet is social in a different way, but i like it. I find its easier to say how i feel on msn. (yeah it can be bad too though because people say things they would never say in person)
