Disneyland has the history (first Disney Park, opened by Walt himself, actually had an apartment in the park) and because of that I really like that park. Also, everything is close; you can walk from Disneyland to California Adventure to downtown Disney or walk a block or two to go to McDonalds or another fast food place. So that makes it affordable.
Disney World is very large. Four separate parks, two water parks, Downtown Disney, several hotels, etc. but some of the rides are the same. But the parks are different enough and there are several rides that are different. Even the rides with the same name are different. Some rides are better in California (longer) other are better in Florida. Disney World seems to be more “out of the way”. Unlike California where you can see the street and hear traffic on the outskirts of the parks.
I can’t pick a favorite. Both have their pros and cons. But because of location I am a Disney World annual pass holder.

I definitely prefer Walt Disney World. Disneyland only has two theme parks, three hotels, and a Downtown Disney District. Walt Disney World has four massive theme parks, two water parks, Downtown Disney, over 25 different Resorts, and over 150 dining options. It would be hard to spend even a week at Disneyland before running out of things to do, but a person could spend a month at Walt Disney World and still not have enough time to do everything there is to do. Walt Disney World property is the size of San Francisco and twice the size of Manhattan! Walt Disney World is definitely better than Disneyland, in my opinion. But I do like Disneyland, too.

Disneyland, I prefer the weather in southern California over Florida. I have been to DisneyWorld and it was so crowded, we had to wait over an hour for several rides. Disneyland gets crowded too, but because we were able to visit during the off season, we made many trips without the crowds. Anyway, I wasn't able to go the Disney Animal Kingdom or Epcot Center, so maybe if I had been able to visit those also, I may have a different opinion.

I'd prefer Disney World because there's a whole lot more to do. Aside from having more theme parks, WDW has two water parks, several golf courses and a Downtown Disney shopping area. The nighttime shows at the parks are amazing.

Walt Disney World is by far the best. Everything from the Magic Kindgom to MGM to water parks, you name it. Plus there are a bunch of hotels on premisis at all price ranges so you can stay right at the park, get on rides early, etc. It's a wonderful place.
Magical in fact.

Disney World is a vastly better experience. Four parks to visit with each of them having a different feel to them and with some good rides on top of that. Plus in Florida you can also visit Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure both of which have better thrill rides. Sea World is also available. Traffic is lighter. You can stay on property at WDW and never have to drive at all if you wish. Off world hotels are cheaper in Florida than in California. WDW is more expensive for tickets, however. WDW is my preference.
