He's not worth 10 that goes without saying. With his current numbers I would say 3 to 3.5 million with incentives.

Green's numbers aren't even that good for a shortstop anymore let alone a right fielder. I would rather have Xavier Nady in there and they can take Roberto Hernandez back in Pittsburgh.
However, I gotta say that it's not really that bad for the Mets because they have a strong lineup even with Green in there and who knows with strong support and more RBI opportunities, maybe he can drive in 85-90 runs and hit .290, that would be good. Also, they are not paying most of his salary so Minaya doesn't have to feel guilty or hamstrung for having him in there.
Lastings Milledge is not the answer in right field. I get the feeling that he wouldn't be a good fit in New York long term.
There are better choices than Shawn Green, but he is not a bad fit for this team with the firepower they have.

Is Barry Zito worth 126 Million?
Is Gil Meche worth 55 million?
Is Alex worth 252 million?
Jeter 189 million? so on and so forth.
Baseball salaries are nuts.
Shawn Green had some good years but did that equate to what hes getting paid? Not in a million years.

To most teams he is not worth it but for the mets he is worth it. There are over 1 million New York Jews and bringing a Jewish player into New York may bring some of the Jewish Yankee fans to the Mets seeing how Steinbrenner has not brought a Jewish star into the majors (PS Im Jewish so I dont wanna hear any whining about me being subtly anti-semetic). Also he represents a quick fix for the mets and they can pay his contract.

No, but the Mets are not paying all of it so they got a deal as far as I know. It won't hurt to keep him around and see what happens. As far as what he is worth, have you seen the paychecks some of these players are getting? Out of control, keeps surprising me what average players get. Think about what Boston has been doing and I'm a Boston fan. A players salary just can't be figured these days.

there is a mutual option for 2008 of 10 million with a 2 million buyout.

its an expiring contract. Remember the huge deal he signed with the dodgers after playing for toronto. Well hes still getting paid for it. If not hed be worth the veterans minimum, maybe even be a sammy sosa type having to sign a minor league contract. But hes a proven name in decline who will produce decently so its all good.

Definitely not. His fielding and power numbers have declined. For example, look at his fielding during the 2006 playoffs. Today he could be worh 7.5-8 million a year.
