Homework is something to get the mind going. It is in truth a take home test. During a test in school you do not have the teacher around to help you and the teacher does not always go over everything in class so HW will allow you to know what a teacher doesn't get to and allows you to participate in class to see if you really comprehend what is going on. You may not notice it but when you do homework it is preparing you for a test because it allows you to think for yourself and analyze a question. If you get that question right it allows you or the teacher to see how you can think and how your mind processes things. If you get it wrong it shows the teacher that you are not processing the work well and it can allow the teacher to help you with your weakness. If you had trouble on the homework don't be afraid to confront the teacher because the teacher can help you and tell you if you are processing information correctly.

Of course homework is important. So often teachers don't lecture in classrooms anymore (partly because student don't always pay attention). By assigning homework, the teacher can tell whether or not a student is grasping the content of what is being taught. Many student would just skate by without homework. While I am quite certain you look at it as an "evil" think of it as a "necessary evil" because it truly is enhancing you knowledge. You might not think so now, but down the way as you grow older, you will think back and say to yourself "oh I know about that" and it is probably due to your homework.

Is homework really important?
As a student,
my opinion is homework is only important when you know what is the purpose of the homework and the attitude you used towards doing homework.
For an instance, if a student is doing homework blindly (without knowing what is the purpose), then he is not learning anything. He would be wasting his time and effort of doing the homework.
Most of the time, you see students doing homework grumpily, or doing for the sake of doing because of the grades, or the fear of getting called home by the teachers. Sometimes, you see them copying and sometimes you see them doing it without thinking.
Is homework important in such cases?
I don't think so.
What is the real purpose of doing homework?
In school, the truth about doing homework is to helps a student to understand what he was taught in class. Besides understanding, it also give a feedback to the student whether he has understand correctly.
So is homework really important if one has truly understand what was taught in class?
Of course not too.
In special cases like the students understand what was being taught in class because they are more intelligent, why would homework actually be important for them to do? Unless they are given more challenging homework to do, then it is justify to say that they should do their homework.

Although I think that the application is talking about sports, theater, music, dance, or clubs such as chess clubs, homework can also be an important after school activity. What the essay is looking for is how well you would fit in at their school not only academically but extra curricularlly. Homework is important because it shows that you wil work for your acadamic grades.
Hope that that helps.

Homework is school work that you take home from school to complete at home. It can be either set assignments or punishment (you didn't finish work so you have to take it home and do it) remedial or extension, general or specific.
In itself, extra school work is important only if it helps your learning.
Good homework: reviews what you did that day at school, is within your ability level, takes a sensible amount of time, is marked and noted by the teacher, is consultive (you can ask questions about it next day) and doesn't create stress.
If homework is set that is : too easy, too hard, not related to what you are doing at school that week, takes hours or only a minute, is not marked and returned to you later; then its not going to help you. It's going to frustrate you and make you hate the whole homework thing.
However the homework HABIT is different, establishing a pattern of reviewing your learning is only going to support you in your school career. The homework habit could also be called studying.
I see the function of homework is to establish the homework habit.

Homework is important because it is "practice" in learning the skills you need. I mean if you were learning a new skill in basketball you'd practice it until you perfect it right? It is better to make a mistake now than when in a game. The same goes for schoolwork... teachers prefer you to make the mistake in your homework so that when you take the test you won't make a mistake. Homework is practice for the test.

I would agree with those who have said it provides practice and reinforcement, both of which help you learn and remember. One other thing it does is give you an idea of what the teacher thinks is important. The fact that it is a part of your grade is the stick to go with the above carrots.

When the application asks about your "after school" activities, this probably refers to activities like piano, drama, sports activities, and after school clubs that you do after school. You may want to discuss one of those kinds of activities, and you can discuss your dedication to your school work (e.g., homework) in one of the other application essays. I hope this helps! Good luck and best wishes!

it reinforces the ideas/lessons that you learned in class that day..or elaborates more on it. It also sees who can retain what and who needs a little bit more help!
It also helps people learn more about a particular topic that is interesting to them. Opens the doors for learninig and possibly a major and carreer down the road.

it is most important because it helps you review what you learned that day, it enforce your understanding of what you learn in school, it provokes you to think outside of the school, it may provided you with questions that you need to answer, it gives you pratice of applying what you learned, it make sure you are not confuse about anything, it is part of your duty as a student
