Hi! I would like to know some major facts about the silver maple tree.... I'm studying about the maple tree and would like some information.

um i got confused with the tree i wanted some facts about the red maple tree

The silver maple is kind of the "garbage maple" of the family. The red maple is a much better ornamental and shade tree. It's prettier throughout the year than silver (especially in the fall) and the wood is stronger. It just doesn't grow as fast as the silver but that's good because it is an overall stronger and healthier tree.

The leaf undersides and bark are a silvery gray giving it it's name.
Leaves are 5 lobed and 3 to 6 inches in width. Lots of yellows and reds in fall foliage.

They grow rapidly, 50' to 70' high. Most like acid soil and even moisture. They are weak wooded and are prone to break. The surface roots can clog pipes and raise pavements. Pests are aphids and cottony maple scale.

the roots grow into cement.pavement,sew lines they are a fast growing tree that most people are not fond of because of this they are also a cheap maple and hard to kill and come back from the roots .

I found them to be a hard to kill nuisance, not nearly as nice as most other varieties of maple.
