Both are OLD and outdated cpus. The D 820 is an old dual cpu, but you should only get the Intel duo core 2 cpu. Far faster for about the same price. The AMD 3800+ if not the X2, would be the "cheap" way to go. Just goto www.tomshardware.com to check the speeds of the cpus.

Pentium D has the advantage of being dual core, but it still ends up being slower than the 3800+, even when multitasking. As far as reliability, both are reliable, both companies make solid reliable products, but in this case the AMD is clearly faster.

Which 3800 are you talking about? There's three different kinds. Well, I have the 820 and I'm very satisfied, I use my computer as a gaming CPU. But, if you're looking for the most power, get the AMD Althon 64 X2 3880+. If you weren't talking about that one, then get the 820 with no doubt.

AMD runs cooler and generally faster. Not sure what you mean by "true speed".
