I'm extremely depressed and have many mood swings, but I'm never happy. My mood swing are always either, I'm pissed at everyone, or I'm bursting out in tears and I'm bawling, but there is never a mood swing where I laugh or I'm happy. Why??

It's getting really bad and I'm even getting crying spells at school, making it even harder to get friends, could I be bipolor??

I also get aggressive and very defiant with authority figures...if this isn't bipolor, what could it be?

It sounds nothing like bipolar disorder. It sounds much more like major depression.

Bipolar disorder consists of moods that go as low as suicidal depression and reach highs in which they are nearly psychotic. These mood swings take weeks or even months. When in the manic (the high end of the spectrum) people will have racing thoughts, boundless energy, do not sleep and often end up commited to psychiatric wards because of how off the wall they get.

Doesn't sound like you are bi-polar but you could have MDD (major depressive disorder) but if you are being defiant to authority you could have ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). I would challenge you to examine why you think you are acting this way. Have you be sexually or physically abused. Have you experienced some sort of trauma in your past. (i.e. car accident, mom's boyfriend beating her up, a family member dying, a family member doing drugs, divorce etc.) Any sort of traumatic incident can trigger such mood swings without you ever having a disorder. Perhaps, you should talk to your counselor at school and try to get some help from a professional.

I don't think you are bipolar because you are only experiencing the depression side. You could be just plain depressed. Why don't you talk to someone close to you try to open up what worries you and what making you in a bad mood. Or you can try this, I learned this from my Psychology class, if you are angry with someone or something write in a piece of paper don't stop until those worries or what's your feeling inside still there. Make it as a habit and eventually this will help you cope to whatever the problem is. You can also talk to yourself in front of the mirror, like talking to someone else (just make sure you lock your door so no one can see you, otherwise they will think your a nut case and they will lock you up instead) I tried all these method and it works. I hope it will work for you too. Good luck..........

I think bipolar people usually have mood swings that are either extremely happy or very angry/depressed, and since you don't get happy as much, you probaby aren't bipolar.

What you describe sounds alot like teenage angst, which is a general term for the angry, rebellious, depressed, and other, generally chaotic emotions that some teenagers feel due to hormones. I can also affect young adults.

Trust me, I know how you feel. :( I suggest trying to find an outlet to help vent your feelings, like writing, playing an instrument, videogames, punching a pillow, etc.

Your doctor can give you meds to help normalize your emotional turmoil until you can deal with it yourself little by little. I went through same thing. Kids at school thought I was a freak until I got on the meds. I was only on them for about 8 months and then it evened out on its own. I actually felt happy pretty soon after starting them.

Sounds like the classic symptoms. It normally starts between 13 and 18. You should talk to a pro though to be sure. Everyone gets depressed.

Everyone is using the words 'bi polar' today! You definately should see a professional and that's your regular medical doctor and go from there. Good luck...

all women are bi-polar, its just to what degree. you might have yourself checked out. what you sound like is a spoiled rich kid that isnt getting everything they want.. if that isnt it, you should probably see a shrink. theres alot of factors to consider, mainly home life and relationships. genealogy also affects the way you are. what was your grandmother like on your mothers side. theres something missing in your life, your job is to find it. this message will self- destruct in........
