We have never had a gaming platlform although my kids do play computer games. Some other kids brought over a Play Station for a party and all the kids had fun with it using it like a kareoke machine. I think the game was called Song Star or something like that. I would like to not spend too much money. Are PS 2s still available? Will I be able to continue to get games for it even though PS3 is out? I don't know anything about this stuff. My kids are teens, girls 14 and 18. Thanks in advance for your help.

Go with the Playstation 2 not PS3: Playstation 2's can be purchased for $150.00 or less and I'd expect new games to continue to be released for it for another 2 years.
Playstation 3 was just released - Yes the graphics are better, it offers the feature to play Blueray disk which are the next generation to take over DVD and also you can play all the PS2 titles on it. I wouldn't purchase this system now because it was just introduced onto the market. It comes with a price tag of $599.00 or more, Very few PS3 games were released and the system hasn't been out long enough to be established or better than Xbox 360 or nintindo Wii.
For the purpose of why you want to buy a system PS2 is the best choice for your needs - Simply because of the extensive software library and affordable price. Another note PS3 doesn't have any singalong titles or software out yet which your girls would enjoy. It would be a waste of money to buy the PS3 since it doesn't currently offer the games your daughters' would enjoy and it most likely won't have any titles like those for another 6 to 12 months.

Your probly thinking of Singstar Rocks, its a newer game. A ps2 is definatly cheaper. Go on ebay and look for one. Im sure that they are still being sold at retail stores though. A ps3 will bring the bill to $500 or $600 depending on which version you buy, its better but only the ps2 will play singstar rocks. I got a ps2 and yes that games will still be coming out, although this is its last year b/c of the new generation of consoles coming out. the ps2 cost around $150 or $200 I cant remember which.(for a brand new one). its $50 for Singstar rocks. im sure you get both for much cheaper on eBay. hope this helps

the PS2 is still going strong, and will for many years to come. It's about 7 times less expensive than the PS3 and just as good as a kareoke. Try getting an older (thicker) PS2 because they are much less expensive and just as good as newer ones. Try ebay

PS2 Is last generation..You want something that has current generation stuff...Go with the Wii or 360 stay away from the ps3..as it has the worst reviews..worst sales...and has the largest problems..Even the workers at gamestop said to stay away from PS3 do to its overheatioin problems..HALF the console is a FAN...Get whats right Wii-$250 or Xbox 360 Premium system-$400 dont buy the core system..Hope this helps.

You could also buy a karaoke machine and buy the children's karaoke CDs at Target and Best Buy... much cheaper than a gaming system! I bought a DVD player online that had a built in karaoke feature, and it works great, $70, and came with two mics. As far as the gaming systems however, I wouldn't recommend the PS3 right now because there are problems with it and it is overpriced, especially for what you plan to use it for.

Yes PS2 is still available, adn all the games are too, but you would be better off buying the Kareoke machine.

a ps2 is $129.99 to $150.00 while a ps3 is $600 a ps2 has some great games for sing alongs while the ps3 has none just buy the ps2 and if you are interested in the ps3 just buy after the price drops

Well first of all "yes" you can still geta ps2. and i dont think they will be making very many new games for the ps2. but if your looking for a good party system id go with the gamecube because it has: donkey konga 1 + 2. and they have a bunch of mario party games which is very fun if you have a friend playing with you. but i have a blast with my friends while playing donkey konga. you should google search donkey konga and mario party.
and btw the gamecube is VERY CHEAP you can probally get one for 75-100$ now. and the donkey konga package is like $50. but well worth it.

well if they like SingStar. which is the game your thinking of. either that or Singster im not 100% sure. But then get a PS2 and yes they are still available
