Yes he chases shots of jim beam with natural ice beer-5.9% alcohol. He goes completely psycho and tries to kill himself and ends up in the emergency rooms psych ward.

You're asking the wrong question. You're asking the technical reasons why this happens. The real question is why you stay with someone who drinks and goes crazy, knows that he goes crazy when he drinks, and continues to drink. Really, what's in it for you? I'd run in the opposite direction. Maybe your leaving will help him get sober.

Seriously, sign up for Alanon, so you understand why you stick around. This sounds mega-dangerous!

I don't know science of it. But from my experience I would guess it is the alcohol content. Beer has a low alcohol content compared to whiskey. So you get more alcohol in your system faster with whiskey. Beer-slow and steady. Whiskey-fast and reckless.
Irregardless both get you drunk. As for mixing the two I have never really had a problem with it. Saki-Bombers.

One serving of beer (12 oz) and one serving of distilled spirits (1 and 1/2 oz) contain the same amount of alcohol.
I understand that distilled liquor, depending on the type, will have other substances in it (that beer doesn't have) that affect behavior.
My closest friend's husband has the same problem as your boyfriend. She told her husband that if he drinks hard liquor around her again, the relationship is OVER. He now drinks only beer!

Whisky has a lot more alcohol in it than beer. Whisky also effects you a lot faster. i know to stay away from my dad when he is drinking whisky. When he is drinking beer im a little more at eas. If he ever hits you you should leave him, but then i dont know you or your husband so i do not know the situation. Good luck and i hope your husband is not abusive.
