Give them a couple years- Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury. If they keep this core together there will be some cups in the next few years

I wouldn't say they suck. They're just inconsistent. You have to remember that the teams is, I believe, the 2nd youngest in the league (avg. age). Our defense is atrocious especially since Eaton has been out with a wrist injury (should be coming back soon in late Jan or early Feb). Our goaltender is very inconsistent and our back up isn't any better then Fleury, given a few years Fleury will be awesome but he lacks experience. It also doesn't help that the coach mixes up the lines every five minutes which means chemistry is hard to find between players. Also, we have a lot of talented centers (Crosby, Staal, Malkin) and no 'great' wingers. It would probably help if we had more than 3 righties. I think in a couple of years the pens won't "suck", and most likely the opposite. Possibly another Stanley Cup?

They don't. They are kids still getting into the game mostly. Yeah they struggle as they get the NHL Experience. Well most players do, the difference is it is most of their team that is young. Although I question Therrien's coaching style and how much that is hurting the team. This changing lines around during the game to reward players that are doing good and lower players that aren't doing as good just doesn't seem to help. They aren't getting the chemistry of being on a line as some teams would get. Crosby and Malkin communicated through hockey ability. They couldn't really talk, as Malkin doesn't really speak English yet. Yet watch them play togther. They seem to know where to be for each other. That is the type of chemistry that teammates need to have. If the lines could all function like that and could all get used to each other then they would proably be doing better.
Oh and to Mel, Mario stated from early on in his ownership that it was TEMPORARY to get the team back on its feet basically. He basically let it known he didn't really want to own the team long term. Well so when he looked to sell it now that they have a salary cap it fit in with that plan. Also would you want to put up with being an owner with that city leadership. I mean all he did for that city and he TRIED to get a new Arena since he bought the team. Ok the City is bankrupt so they can't provide alot of money BUT how would it make you feel that they don't seem to really be on your side. Another example is our Govenor. When Ridge was still in office in 2001, he was with Mario at his annual Charity Golf Tournment. Mario got some funding earmarked and Ridge had it set up but that was like Labor Day. As you know Ridge let office shortly after that to become Advisor for Homeland Security. Well the funds were marked but not signed for release. Hard to explain how that went but it's another story. Anyway when Rendell won he didn't give Mario the money. He wouldn't sign to unfreeze the funds for the new Arena. Then the way things went with the slots license. That is another topic though. Long story short all the owners of the sports teams in Pittsburgh were angry though.

The most likely answer is money!
When a team starts losing more than winning (since Lemeiux retired first time) people turn their attention to other things.
When your fan base shrinks ticket and paraphernalia sells shrink with it.
Less income means less funds available for the really good players.
Moving may help, I hope so. But I'd much rather see the fans rally to help their own cause.
I'm a Stars fan. They say them moved to Dallas because on the opening night on the season after they lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Penguins, the seats were deserted. Modano said he suspected that night the team would move. Because you have to support your team financially as well as vocally.

I didn't realize they did. I think they are doing pretty good considering how young all the players are.
