A doohickey is metric and has left handed threads as compared to a thingamabob.

doohickey will only work on a Japanese car. It is metric and almost always made from a recycled soda can. That's right, soda can, as in singular, only one etc.
thingamabob, on the other hand, is specifically designed for American autos. It is constructed of high quality steel and once installed is good for the life of the vehicle. In fact I have a thingamabob that I have transferred to three different vehicles and it is every bit as good as it was when new. I did have to wash it once but for 14 years of service, that ain't bad.
Don't ever put a doohickey on my Ford. Some moron put one on a Jeep I used to own. As a result, I had to scrape it. I sure do miss that Jeep.

I believe the thingamabob has a watchamacallit on its lateral side and the doohickey is more of a mathaticalpository eucaliptical.

Athingamabob is something you hold in your hand and say"What is this thingamabob!" Adoohickey is already attatched to something and you don't know what it's called but it does serve a purpose
