I am a freshman in high school and I really want to be successful. But my problem is that it is really challenging to remain focused on school. Between hanging out with friends, boys, snowboarding, shopping, aim, myspace, emails, my cell phone and ipod, there doesnt seem to be much time for what is really most important: school. My dream is to go to a really good college. In middle school I was an extremely focused student, but now with so many outside distractions, I find that my GPA is lower than I would like. And I am also concerned because I know how competitive schools are now. Please help me with any suggestions on how to stay more focused- maybe from someone who has been there done that. Thanks-

You have asked the best question and will always get an answer if you ask how can I. Keep asking and it will come to you yourself you don't need to worry about it at all. Good luck you seem to have it all sused out. Keep your goal in front of you and make it real as real as you can live in your dream and it will come about for you. Look for opportunities to put them into place. small steps and big steps look for them they are there waiting for you to step into them.

LOL u sound like the average american teenage girl np babe, just do what i do, dont pay attention, get help from friends on homework (if ure hot, just get some nerds to do it), go in before a test or quiz, and the teachers will tell u everything thats on it, then make a little note card cheat sheet on the computer, by typing everything u need to know really small and use it on the test, and if u have to read a book, go to sparknotes.com which has the summaries for all the books, no problem babe, anytime, guaranteed As and Bs throughout HS

by the way, get an avator, i thought u were a guy first

options:
1- Have your social life going. As in hanging out with friends and sport, but take your cell away from yourself. I know its like taking soemones life away. But that is how you learn to live without your phone, and you see you have enough time for other things.

2-Find a job, preferably a boring job, that you have to sit and do nothing really and instead do you study there to pass time faster.

3- Find a nerd in your class who always wants to be the first, and befriend him/her. You will notice that you will start becoming like on of them. Because they will naturally be your competition and also a friend which you cant count their support to help you if you fall a bit behind.

4- maybe you are not interested in the field you are, but you are there because of an indirect force , maybe from your social life or family that says you need to be this.
Explore other fields and see what you are interested in.

5- people who are successful are not the nerds who got straight A'S all through their life, but are people who are connected well , are sociable people and friendly and open minded. You do have ll those if you are active outside. Education is important , but you should explore what are the strongest skills you have in yourself that brings you out and makes you different from everyone else.

Its very good that you realize that you need to be more focused on your school work. Take it from a person who is in college being focused on your studies is the most important if not the lonely thing you have to do. Now I can tell you what I do for myself to keep myself focused on my studies. Because like you I have alot of outside activities that pull at me and want alot of my time and attention. But in order for me to pass my exams and complete my assignments and receive an A in my classes I had to turn down a few dates and turn off the cellphone and house phone. And made that time for my studies, when that time was over it was time to relax and have fun.

Try the school councellor, or even outside school if you feel it being uncomfortable in school. Otherwise, the best option is to study more and more by trying really hard if you really want to get a good maths marks. At the same time get breaks when you feel you are daydreaming and when you're in the mood, get back to the studying. Devote alot of time in your homework (with alot of breaks) this may sound silly, but people who get good marks dont only use 2 hours of homework. I used to be really bad at maths, but once i read it slowly while daydreaming and having breaks etc, i improved alot better. Believe me...anyone can be smart if they work really hard to it.

Goals that inspire you will help you focus.
Take some time out and create real goals for yourself.
Write them down, change them, re-word them so they are positive, specific, achieveable and exciting. Once you have a list that makes you smile and feel alive, make a copy and stick it where you can see it. Visit your list and read it every day.
Distractions work when you are not focusing on your goals.
You need to revisit your goals a lot, and change your behaviours to move towards your goals.
Remember - the pilot flying a huge jumbo jet is constantly checking where he is at and making small changes in direction in order to get that plane from London to Sydney. Its those small changes made constantly referring to his flight plan that get that plane to where its meant to go.
Good luck - you can do it!

Well I know you mentioned you don't have much time well thats the key to it. Try to balance the 2 ya social life and ya studies. All though having fun in high school is a ball. Try to take at least 2 hours everyday to focus on ya school work then everything will be fine

Hang out with friends the week ends
Internet should be after you have studied and completed all home/school work
you will never do good in college the rate you are going now/
you will flunk out first semester if you don' get a good studying routine now.

Get some vitamins, see less friends and study more, get a tutor, join an educational group, talk to your social worker at school, teacher or someone else who might be able to direct you in the right direction.
