looking for info on the lyetebird islands in the phillipines, father died there during ww2 and would like some info on the island

I think there is no such thing as lyetebird island in the Philippines. Maybe you mean "Leyte". The Gulf next to it is the site of one of the largest naval battle in WW2 history.

I wish I could help you but I can't find anything on leytebird islands using any search engine.
An interesting story. My father was a sailor on one of the ships transporting soldiers for the Leyte invasion and my mother's brother was one of the soldiers on that same ship. Of course, at the time they did not even know each other as my mother did not meet my father until 4 year later.

There are 7,100 islands in the Philippines. The Philippines is divided into 3 regions namely: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Give us more information like what Philippine action/conflict did he serve in, like invasion of Leyte Gulf, last stand in Bataan or Corregidor, liberation of the Philippines. My grandfather who was drafted in the Philippine-American Army also saw action in World War II here in Mindanao. He died in 1997 without receiving any veteran recognition from the US government.
