Of course not. It's against the theater's rules, and they can throw you out for it.

No you are not breaking any laws by bringing in outside food. It is only a rule they have so that people will buy their crap. Most likely they would only tell you not to do it again.
Though honestly the odds that you'll be caught is slim to none. Most movie theaters I've been too someone comes through one or twice to make sure no one is talking. Otherwise that it is too dark to see who is eating what.

It's a civil contract - you accept the terms offered as part of the sale of the ticket to view the movie. The theater could throw you out, and could sue you for damages, because you broke the contract. You couldn't be arrested.

I don't believe that it is breaking the law, but the owners of the theater are entitled to enforce their own rules and they can take away food that you have brought in from outside or throw you out. Most theaters have a kids pack that includes a small popcorn and a small drink for $4 or $5.

That may fall under the "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" rule, but that should be posted...Concessions are where theaters make money, even over ticket prices which apparently don't cover enough of the expenses.. (So I've heard)....

Nope. Been bringing a corn beef on rye with pickles and chips into the movies for over 45 years. It is a tradition now with my kids and grandchildren to bring deli sandwiches into the movies. It is half the fun taking it in. I don't think it is a law. I think it is about hiking the prices high and expecting us stupid consumers to pay anything they say as we always do.
