What a pain isn't it? Well, the metal wire they use is usually not rounded or sanded down (just like bobby pins that lose the protective coat at the end), thus it is a sharp pointed edge that rubs up against the fabric and it breaks through over time and washing.

I've often stitched up the fabric back together many times to prevent it from happening and even then it still poked through and so I sewed on a piece of thick fabric overtop of the rip so that it wouldn't stab me and/or get lost in the washing machine (which mind you can get stuck and break the spindle of the machine- happened to a friend!)

So therefore, wash on delicate or permanent press cycle (as it spins much slower) or use a special mesh bag if you want to wash it on regular cycle. I have seen them before in the dept stores and/or hand wash them like another lady said.

Good luck!

PS They aren't always cheap bras! Mine were wonder bras and it still happened!

Bras that are under-wired or have metal clips should not be washed in the machine, always hand-wash them. It is the constant motion of the washing machine that works the clips and wires loose. They will last longer and wear better by hand-washing them.

Most bras are hand wash and air dry unfortunately...they can't handle all of the abuse that a washing machine hands out. Best bet is to hand wash, or wash on delicate, seperately in the machine, in some sort of intimates bag, or a pillow case as previously stated.

HAHA.."Whoops", me too!!

You have to hand wash them, I learnt the hard way and got stabbed many times!
