Why is it always a Kenyan that wins marathons?

Why do Jewish people and Asians disproportionately populate our best Universities?

It seems the best in sports are usually black. There are the Jordans and Kobes who have both the superior athletic ability and the brilliant minds and then there are the Larry Birds and Dirk Nowitzski who are marginally athletic but have that same mindset that the best black athletes have. I don't like to treat people differently based upon race, but this is something that I think most of us notice all around us.

Sickle cell mostly affects blacks. Various "old world" diseases still afflict people with Native American blood a great deal. Aren't there really differences between those from different ethnic backgrounds?

I think this country is nearing the point where the bigotry and blind hatred is almost gone, so would it be OK if we started being honest with ourselves about the physical and mental differences between the races?

I can't help it, Puerto, but you'rea buffoon. By assuming I'm white aren't you stereotyping me? You forget that many natives (probably including the ones in the Carribean, but I don't know about them honestly) relied moreso on meat than Europeans. You go on to stereotype Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans.

As for America needs you more than vice versa... LOL. Why don't you just claim independence from the USA, close the borders, and see how being the second incarnation of Cuba treats you? Cuba, as you may or may not know, was a pretty well off place 50 years ago. Now it's crumbling.

And, yes I've been stereotyped. I know that not all of them are true. I'm Irish (the drinking stereotype is true, every Irishman is a born drinker whether they were brought up to do so or not) and Polish. There are very smart people on the Polish side. I have an IQ of 138. The dumb Polock sterotype is false.

You don't see my point, and that's not surprising given your obvious lack of intellect.

There are very little true physical and mental differences between the races. Some are more suseptible to certain disease merely because they have not been exposed for as long as other races, and hence have not been able to develop an immunity to them.

To your second question, there is a simple legal explanation, at least in regards to U.S. Universities. During the civil rights era, diversity was to be encouraged, and so laws were passed dictating that x percentage of people must be from specific ethnic backgrounds/must be minorities.

The first question is not necesarily true.

"I think this country is nearing the point where the bigotry and blind hatred is almost gone"...

I'm not sure where you live, but bigotry is alive and kicking in most parts of America. Sure, its better for blacks today than 40 years ago, but look at how the Mexicans are treated now.

We've got a lot of work to do, and it would be helpful if people would stop perpetuating the stereotypes.

First; a stereotype is a "picture " of a group. It is a statistical average of a group. Will there be outliers? Of course! Exceptions? Of course. We need to get away from the connotation of " stereotype and back to the meaning. This means that we study populations, but we deal with individual people. So no one need be judged by the stereotypical average of his group; something he has no control over.

PS I will keep pounding at the dichotomy of group/individual analysis until you social scientists get it! To the truth, it does not matter what one believes! A hard lesson for social scientists, who want their ideology to trump the truth, when the truth becomes an inconvenient barrier to ideology.

9 years ago I started working with a population known for being late for appointments, alcoholics, etc etc etc....I said to myself...I will not judge and will give them a chance to prove that they are different then what the popular stereotype says...

Nine years later...I had to come to conclusion that there is some truth behind the stereotype. Time and time again, their actions confirmed the stereotype.

I don't know why it ended up being like that. I still think that not everybody is the same, and that it is important to give a chance to a population to proove themself before judging.

An open mind is important

sure, stereotypes are in our lives everyday, you form one as you grow up. society perpetuates them in the media, but then again, who owns the media? Jews, right? I've heard alot about Jews I've had alot of jewish coworkers who were pretty decent people. some people are just closed-minded so. this Politically Correct business is just some crap to keep people in check, instead of just educating them about different cultures.

I've never really focused Jews in Universities, they probably grow up being encouraged about education.

the "Old World diseases" only proves that the indigenous people never ate animals to survive, Whites had to do that in order to survive. go to Puerto Rico or Jamaica and you'll see that we don't rely on medicine that was created by chemists because mother knows how to take care of us. if we die, then it's God's will.

I hear this crap about stereotypes only in multicultural countries. in Puerto Rico there's none of that because everybody is the same. the only that gets on our nerves is American f**cking with our resources. we dont' need to use them as much as america would love to, but they set up shop and now they are reaping the benefits and paying those they invaded.

please don't comment on stereotypes if you've never been stereotyped because you sound or read like you're white!!!

yes, you are right.
There are real differences but everyone is trying so hard to be politically correct, no one wants to admit it.
There are professionals called psychological profilers. I think it's the same thing as stereotyping.

FIRST, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT WE ARE NEARING THE POINT WHERE BIGOTRY AND HATRED ARE ALMOST GONE. STEREOTYPES ARE ALIVE AND HATRED IS AS WELL. I SEE IT EVERYDAY. RACIAL PROFILING IS ALL OVER THE HEADLINES. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A TIME WHERE WE DON'T SEE DIFFERENCES, EVEN BETWEEN SAME RACES. BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE A LONG WAY OFF FROM THAT.

A lot of people use stereotypes because 1) they hear them a lot, and as with just about all information these days, once people hear it, they believe and internalize it, and 2) because they're lazy.

It's going to be really hard to erase it.

Stereotypes have basically no basis in truth. They are simply there to be made fun of.
