It's only interesting if you have a lot of friends who are on facebook. You can't see the profiles of people who aren't your friends or aren't in your network. My daughter is in college and has one. It's almost like a yearbook that gets updated daily. People upload photos and leave each other public or private messages. You get reminders of your friends' upcoming birthdays. There are also groups you can join or create, although I don't see the value of that since nothing ever really happens within the groups. Some of the group names are hilarious, though. You can also create events, like parties, and send invitations through facebook. People can RSVP online. One kind of cool thing is that you can look up people from your past. My daughter has found people she went to school with at an international school in Japan nine years ago. Create an account and explore. It can't hurt and you can delete it if you don't like it.

Oh yeah! And like the guy said above, you can label all the people in your photos. When you click on the "view photos" under a person's name, you can see all the photos that have been uploaded of that person. However, if someone uploads a photo of you that you don't like, you can "untag" the photo so people can't see it when they click to view photos of you.

Facebook is better than Xanga and MySpace.
First of all, it is pretty much your profile. That is all you get. But, on your profile, you can edit it much more (not HTML or JavaScript) but you can say what you want to say. Also, the Messaging system is much more like Email, it is easy and covinent to use.
There is also something called "The wall" which is pretty much an area where you friends can leave comments (Like the myspace comments!) It is easier to upload pictues, and you can make albums and identify the people in the picutres, with a click of the button.
Making friends is easy, you can just search for them in the streamlined search engine, and they get friend requests. You may also add details about your friends, like how you met them, your relationship, etc.
You CANNOT be stalked on Facebook. In order for people to see your profile, they have to be your friend, and you approve that. You can remove them easily too, if they get annoying.
There are groups in Facebook (Like blogrings in xanga) and you join groups for street cred and to share opinions about similar intrests.
You can write notes too, which everyone sees, and commenting on everything is very easy. The design of the whole site is very streamlined.
There are also events you can schedule, and all your friends can be invited. For example, you can have an event for your b Day, and everyone gets an email saying that they are invited, plus, you you get to write a description of the event.
Last of all, theres the poke button. It is awesome. Join Facebook, and check it out.

It depends on your social life and friends. If many of your friends use facebook, you might consider it. If they don't then there's not much of a point in signing up, since myspace is probably more popular in many other aspects.

Facebook is safer because you must use your university email address to start an account. People are who they say they are.
