This is a tricky question b/c some people are assuming that B is the hypotenuse and others are just assuming that you have to look for B. Usually in math books, C represents the hypotenuse (hence the reference to the Pythagorean theorem A squared + B squared = C squared) so the answer to your question depends on what A, B, and C represent. If C is the hypotenuse (longest side of a right triangle), then the hypotenuse is 6, no calculation needed.

yes, but the question says the length of the hypotenuse, implying that b is the hypotenuse, not c. a, b, and c are arbitrary. you can call any side of the triangle c. so if he's truly looking for the hypotenuse, then using his variables, a^2 + c^2 = b^2. and b would be the square root of 61.

(hypotenuse)2 = (side)2 + (side)2 { Pythogorus theorm}

(B)2 = (5)2 + (6)2
= 25 + 36
= 61
therefore B = square root of 61

5,6 (5^2 + 6^2 )
hypotenuse = 7.8102496759

Note this ^ means squared

A^2 + B^2 = C^2

so then (5)^2 + B^2 = (6)^2
which is 25 + B^2 = 36
and then B^2 = 11
and therefore B = the square root of 11
it is pythagoreum therom(probably not spelled right). it is easy once you remember the formula, then again everything would be easy if we could remember the formula! and i have no clue how answer #2 got the square root of 61, it just doesn't make sense!

A squared plus B squared equals C squared...A squared is 5 times 5 or 25 so A=25 and you don't know B squared
C squared is 6 times 6 or 36 so C=36 so
25+ b squared = 36
36-25=11
the square root of eleven is 3.31662479 or rounded to 3.32

if I remember correctly, i think it goes something like A^2+B^2=C^2

a=5
b=?
c=6

5^2+B^2=6^2
B^2=36-25
B^2=11
B=square root of 11

(i guess the symbol for squareroot isn't on keypad..lol)

the eqn is A squared plus B squared equals C squared...so its (5x5) plus (?x?) equals (6x6)....so 25 plus ?x? equals 36.....so therefore ?x? equals 36 minus 25, which is 11. which means ? (or b) is 3.32
