I wish someone would play Devil's Advocate and explain why he should be a hero to some Iraqi people?

I'd love to see someone try to paint him as a hero. He tortured and killed millions of his own people and other countries' people for no reason. Thus, he was a criminal.

It makes sense that more people have died in the last few years than during Saddam's reign. It's war. People die more often in wars.

He was a criminal.

He advocated the use of torture

He used weapons that are illegal by international conventions and treaties to kill, maim and wound innocent civilians.

He ruled with an iron fist silencing all opposition voices.

He only followed those laws which he felt like following and ignored those he did not agree with.

He cut programs for the poor in his country to allow the financing of his weapons programs and to fund his war.

He only allowed those who were loyal to him and his government to profit.

He lied to the world and his own citizenry.

He surrounded himself with "Yes Men" to ensure no opposing opinions would be expressed.

He willingly sacrificed his men and women in uniform for a cause he knew would have disastrous results.

He killed his own citizens.

Bus.....er Saddam was most definitely a criminal

It all depends on who you ask. To most americans, Including myself, he was a criminal. and to alot of people in his country he was a criminal. but then you have those select few who believe he was a great man. Your question is more of an opinion question. No one can answer either way on this. But it is a good question none the less.

It depends on who you talk to. A hero to some, a villain to others, a father, a dictator, a lover, a murderer but above all in spite of it all he was a human being, maybe not a very good one, but one just the same. Judge not and ye shall not be judged. Matthew 7:1

i think neither of them, he kill a lot and preform a lot ok we all agree , but why excuted him now? if they offer for him a true trial by Iraqi ture pepole all of us I think will respcet this decision, 2nd thing it not issue of hero or not , the issue that he was a president and we dont do that for them.
3rd thing alot of story was barried by his death and they do that , why not to continue tll the end of dijil case?i think that we need time to judge on him
hope to do soon

Impossible to answer. In my opinion, he was a criminal. Not to the same degree as Osama, but a criminal in the end. However, to put it as generally as you have, many might have a different opinion to your thought.

I would say a mass murder makes him a criminal.

But I am sure there are people who consider him a hero.
Same kind of people who think Hitler is a hero.

In a check list of what a hero should be, I don't tend to have rape or murder as one of the qualifying check offs.

He gave the orders to have people killed. That makes him a criminal.

I doubt very much that you will find many opinions to the contrary, on here.

Since the Events regarding Saddam are so distant from many of us, I think people stick up for him just to rile people up. I'm not falling for it anymore. Saddam ranks right up there with Hitler and friends, its that simple.
