This just proves once again that the players no longer look at being a major leaguer as someone involved with sports. To them it is strictly a business. They are paid to provide a service and that's how they look at it.
You are correct in saying that Barry Zito is more interested in the money then winning a championship. When you make the kind of money these guys make, what's a few million here or there when you are given the opportunity to be on a world championship caliber team? Basically Zito is saying that $18.4 million dollars a year and playing for a team that has little or no chance of winning is better than maybe being paid $16 million dollars a year and most likely going to the world series with another team. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
I guess as far as Zito is concerned he made the best choice for himself. As a major league pitcher he obviously doesn't care whether his team wins or not, as long as he performs well. To me that's not much of a teammate.

Barry puts his pants on 1 leg at a time just like anybody else(provided they have legs) . Yeah I'm sure the money made the decision a lot easier for him , but other factors played a part in it too. Who says the Giants can't be contenders? That is the weakest division in baseball and if you win that division title then you have a shot. Just look at what the cardinals did , finishing only 2 games above 500 and going on to win it all. Remember the fact that they were big time underdogs all the way too the end and they pulled it off with some timely pitching and a little luck. Never say never.Maybe not the right choice but the smart one.

Zito signed for $126 million dollars! I would do that in a sec. You would do that! Nearly everyone else would do that! So yeah... he's like everyone else. Did he sign with the best team? We'll know at the end of the 2007 baseball season. Since he signed with the Giants, then according to Zito... it was the right move... otherwise he wouldn't have done it.

I'd like to see you guys say no to $126 Million. He can file for free agency or ask to be traded. What's the big deal? Giants are definately a contender for the playoffs aswell... He's a young guy and he'll have plenty of shots at a World Series. It doesn't matter which team you go with, there's nothing to say your going to win a Wolrld Series. Who, at the start of this season said the Tigers were even going to make the World Series. There are too many unknowns. I think he made a fair choice.

Well yea he obviously wanted the money but look at Gill Meche he went to the ROYALS over the Blue Jays and the Cubs. Some people like them may just be thinking that they may be the big turn around a club needs. So maybe that is why Meche and Zito made the decisions they did

Probably. Who wouldn't be tempted with a $126 million dollar contract? He said that he wanted to play for the Giants because they have a beautiful ballpark and such. C'mon, we all know it's because of the $$$. Did he make the right choice? I can't say that he did. If he cared more about the money than a chance to play for a resilient team that has a great chemistry and likely to win the division title again, then it's his business. But I can't say that he made the right choice.

haha..there is no personal reasons he went to the Giants it was because of the cash, and I don't blame him. All of them go to the place where the most money is offered, besides a few that love their team like Aramis!
Barry Zito is a great guy. He is like everyone else, except he is on the road a lot more. He surfs the web, he bids on ebay, he collects stuffed animals!

look there are more to baseball players than winning rings i'm not saying that is not important but he wants to go to a place where he was happy and family reasons and money to support the family i mean whats the whole point going to a team where you are not happy you wont perform and then all bad happens so he went across the bay where everybody loves it its not too far from oakland and he is getting paid a ton i think he made the right choice he is a bay area players and wants to stay that way the giants are a good team but they are young and i think he is going ot enjoy his stay at sbc park for 7 or more years

Jamie Moyer hasn't been very effective contained in the rotation as of now. the only sturdy stat he has is wins, and till the Phillies are in a game the place they're up by a sturdy margin, he would possibly no longer pitch lots contained in the bullpen. The business enterprise strongly believes that 3 time CY youthful award winner Pedro Martinez could be greater effective contained in the rotation, which i think is genuine. So i did no longer discover it very suprising that Moyer develop into moved to the pen.
