Two reasons:
1) there are 420 seperate canibinoids that have been isolated from cannibis.
2)In California "a 420" is a police call for simple possesion of the substance.

I know! I know! And I'm right too. When police call in on their radio that they've apprehended someone caught smoking and in possession of marijuana, the code they call in is 420. Just like when there's a murder the code is 187. People use 187 for weird stuff too. I was told this by more than one police officer.

Good question.. I dont know. But I do know before I got pregnant a couple of years ago..I liked it when it was 4:20. Though I think it has something to do with the police codes

the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation.
