There are many websites that allow you to see satellite pictures of your neighborhood. Most of them do not allow you to zoom in on your house and garden for security purposes.

If you type in your address at http://maps.google.com and then click on to the satellite mode, you can usually see something. Another site is terraserver (http://terraserver-usa.com/cmap.aspx?PPD=8&R=17&C=18&W=1 -- this is on Pennsylvania and you can click on it more to see where you live). Microsoft Earth will also allow you to view your neighborhood via satellite picture.

You don't, but for people who live on the California coast, there's http://www.californiacoastline.org. These pictures were taken from an airplane by people who flew up and down the coast.

*edit* The URL in my second paragraph isn't showing up. It's californiacoastline.org
