i would not, myself - but there is a real reason to do it
assuming that bluray doesn't flop, in the war with HD, the way that beta did against VHS - a bluray player costs like 1000 dollars by itself (yes, sony loses money, like 200-300 for every ps3 they make)
assuming that bluray doesn't die out, the cost of a ps3 actually makes it a good buy.
however, i can't really understand why people would shell out 50 dollars for a movie on either bluray or HD, when today's world allows people movies for free, off the internet, and DVDs are getting cheaper, and coming out faster these days than ever beofre (to combat the internet thefts)

Absolutely not. Don't get me wrong, I think the PS3 is a great system, and is an extremely advanced piece of technology.
600 is a lot of money, money which I don't have, not to mention I'm really cheap. PS3 also touts the Blu-ray dvd feature which has only just recently been released, so it is unknown whether blu-ray technology will catch on and actually replace dvd's, and I don't want to be caught paying for what could be a "useless feature". It also touts 1080p output (i think?), but I don't have a TV that can support it, so I'm not gonna shell out 1000+ dollars for a TV just so I can have pretty pictures. The Six- axis controller is innovative and quirky but if i wanted quirky, I'd buy a Wii. Also, there haven't been many games that I actually like for the PS3.

Yes I would, and I did.
I just can't wait 3 or 4 years down the road to get it cheaper because I don't want to miss out on some games that will be released next year, such as Assassin's Creed (I suppose I could play it on the 360, but I like the PS3 controller much better), Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, etc. I want to play those games as soon as they're released, so the only way to do that is to shell out the 600 bucks.

All you have to do is wait. The good thing about games as apposed to books or movies is that no one can ruin the ending for you. So who cares if you wait six months to a year to play one. Also you might find out that you would rather own a diffrent system. Right now 360, PS3 and Wii are still young, in a year there might be one thing that attracts you to one more than the other and it will be a hell of a lot cheaper!

Well, there's $500 version that isn't a whole lot different from the $600 model.... >_>
Would you buy the "Premium" XB360 ($400) and the HD-DVD add-on($200)? What about a year of XBox Live?
Though, right now I wouldn't buy one either since there won't be a game on it that I'm interested enough in to buy a PS3, though I can say the same thing about the XB360 and the Wii.

I love a good game console just as much as the next person, but my rent, childcare, student loans, need to eat, and electricity bills have a nasty way of making themselves priority.
I prefer to wait until the price comes down a healthy bit or until someone who was crazy enough to pay the $600 pawns it so that they can pay the car note they chose not to pay to get the console in the first place.

Yes! there is a very good reason!!!!!
the ps3 comes with a blue ray dvd player witch alone by itself is 900-1000$ dollars ( there you go) but just incase that dosent matter... they put in a dvdv player ( like extra 50$) and internet!
your saving money either way you look at it!

i can comprehend the boy/female analogy. enable's settle for it, not too many chics on the global of Warcraft convention is there? inspite of the indisputable fact that, i might want to look on the fee as against the benefits. might want to she get $six hundred nicely worth of leisure out of it? if so, and this is low fee then by all potential purchase one. inspite of the indisputable fact that, that device might want to be all the way down to $400 next year even as the sales drop.
