If you believe that crap you are going down a path as bad as the Germans, Russians, Iraqis, and every other country that has fallen victim to tyranny!

You need to read PATRIOT Act and Military Commissions Act 2006. If you can't see the liberties that they have taken away from the citizens of this country, then you are truly un American.

Steelegrave I'm not saying it to insult you. You just name one time in the History of this world that it worked for a country.

And for those of you who don't believe we have given up liberties, you don't even have a respectable opinion, because you are obviously uninformed.

The strictures present and future that have been codified in the Patriot Act make it impossible for Americans to exercise their Constitutional rights. Impaired or taken away are rights of assembly, rights of association, freedom of speech, etc. If Americans were to attempt a march on Washington such as those of Martin Luther King Jr. or the anti-Vietnam protests of the 60s, the Patriot Act allows the sitting government to disallow such assembly. All of us can now be spied upon no matter where we are. The current or any future government could change what it considers loyalty to be and charge anyone with being unpatriotic, even if that person is merely trying to get change in government such as raising the minimum wage or expanding health care coverage for Americans. The Act also allows the government to legally operate with far more secrecy than has ever been allowed before, not that the current regime has ever cared for obeying the law.

I do not give up my civil liberties willingly. Does the government think that I am such a putz that I can't protect my own space? I am willing to defend my home, and am a firm supporter of the Make My Day Law in Colorado. I think the government should get a clue, if I am not going to let some scumwad into my house without permission, then I am not going to let the government in either.

One justification for Europe's feudal system was that the serfs got security and a guaranteed food supply. What was true then, is true now. "So many of the people in the arena... were underprivileged anyway, so this is [works] very well for them" Barbara Bush, September 4, 2005

providing security to the people of the nation can be done in many ways. returning liberties that are taken away is seldom done. history shows us that.
**for those that asnwer by saying they haven't lost any liberties or haven't noticed any change in ther lives, they are kidding themselves. It doesn't happen overnight. If it did, people would not stand for it. It happens gradually and over time, so that when you do notice it, it is too late. Now is the time to complain, before it is to late.

If that is true (which it isn't) at least I'm on the the side of the tyrants.
In our every day lives we give up liberty for security.
Murder is illegal. Does that not limit the liberty of murderers.
My liberty to get plastered and mow people down in my SUV is severely limited by drunk driving laws.
Please relate to me what liberties you have had to give up personally. Yes you do not have the liberty to talk about terrorist activities on your phone or internet without be listened to, if that concerns you then you are a terrorist.
The one fact that I can personally give, the only verifiable truth of my personal account of things like the Patriot Act, that people claim hampers our freedom, is that I haven't been blown up by terrorists. There is nothing else verifiable. If the NSA is listening to my communications, its ok cause I have nothing to hide. If that saves 1 American life I'm ok, they can listen to their hearts content.
Edited: Did I call you names? Don't call me naive. Your paranoid. I don't buy into your conspiracies. We reelect our government every 4 years legislation changes all the time. The beauty of American politics is laws can change the Constitution is an evolving document. Ever heard of WWII? Americans gave up many essential liberties in the war effort and hey they came back, thats who we are. The fact is I believe in the strength and abilities of America and I know that we will never allow facism to get to far. We are sorely apathetic now but when it comes to it we are the greatest fighters in the world.

I cannot tell you that because by giving liberties you may lose the right to protest your plight when the undefined security level is not provided.

The security issue will eventually go away but the freedom will never come back!

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Those are words by Ben Franklin. Heard of him? Our Founding Fathers would be spinning in their graves if they knew how badly their country has gone to shite.

I'm pretty certain that Ben Franklin was not referring to ENEMY COMBATANTS' and TERRORISTS' liberties, when he said that.
And, contrary to what you might believe from hanging around here, there are plenty of Liberal and Conservative attorneys left in this country to protect the rights of ordinary Americans.
Don't believe me? Look at your yellow pages.

To stay on track and answer your question, I would have to honestly say that I have not seen any difference in my daily life nor have I encountered anyone who has seen any huge loss of freedoms. But then I don't make a lot of phone calls to the Middle East.
