Those are under developed nails they are not fully grown yet.
I know what you mean there are some special nail polishes with nail growth in them they make your nails stronger.
Also there are these new kind of fake nails you were them over your nails and let them grow. Don't worry they are not long they look just like your nails.

Try using nail envy nail polish.It works great...that and nail polishes that have lycra in them make them harder and shinier also....Rimmel has 1 that has lycra in it...Good luck,
