Having a chimp as a pet is not only illegal but it is very cruel.
Chimps are group animals and get very lonely when seperated. Most chimps who find themselves open for this kind of abuse have been taken from their mother, normally after watching it be killed and hacked to peices. It is then smuggled in a crate to goodness knows where, kept on a leash and made to wear pathetic clothing which actually burns the skin as it rubs the hair away.

Chimps are beautiful intelligent animals that deserve respect. They are wild and should remain that way.
They are cute when they are babies but they are extremely dangerous and boystrous as they get older. People don't realise that and when they do find out it is too late and the damage has been done, not only to the owner but to the chimp!!

monkeys are not meant to be housepets.. its not a good idea. My friends grandmother had one, and all it did was bite people and throw poop. You need a license and a permit to have a monkey in a home, because it classifies as an exotic animal.. and even then, its completely illegal in some states.. permit or not, unless you are a licensed animal santuary. Think about where those monkeys come from. Many of them are stolen from their mothers as infants.. many of the mothers are killed in an attempt to get the babies. Monkey are NOT domestic animals.. and they will attack people, often unprovoked.
There are likely companies that offer a traveling petting zoo of sorts.. which may be where the "renting" idea comes from.. but I highly doubt they ever let it out of their sight, and its most likely for things like parties

Wow renting a pet, what next. I wouldn't have a chimp for the sake of the chimp. Unless you have a huge jungle house he could swing around in.

I have never heard of renting a pet. I would not do it even if you could. It is not good for the animal to be dragged around and rented out like a piece of heavy equipment.

Having a puppy monkey is like having an extremely spoiled particular-desires new child for the subsequent 40 years. they are amazing as toddlers yet then strengthen up into mean, aggressive, and greater usually then no longer neurotic adults. Being social creatures they choose 24/7 interplay and could strengthen each and every style of emotional issues of out it.

I had a monkey as a child. His name was Charlie. I can't remember what kind it was. Been to long! He was trained to use the toilet and would flush it. He had a little habit, he love to eat tobacco. It made him very drunk. We had him for about five years, this was the late 60s. He died of pneumonia. It was like loosing a member of our family. I think they past laws in most states where you can not have them as pets. He was great, gave us so many laughs and lots of love.
