For most people of the world, it is a mystery and they fear the unknown.

One of the reasons that Jesus came into the world was to free us from that fear by letting people know that He is the way to eternal joy as well as a great life on earth.

Heb 2:14-15

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-that is, the devil- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
(from New International Version)

i think people fear death because of the unknown factor that is associated with it. people that have no understanding of the afterlife, or people who do have an understanding of the afterlife yet choose to live in a manner which is in rebellion against God fear death.

Because we fear the unknown.

We don't know what death holds or how it works or feels, and that's what people fear.

we as a society are not ready for our lives to end. we struggle and work hard for ourselves so that we can succeed and live a life full of experiences. we do not want to pass away before we do all and try all. we have to be able to say that we do not regret anything and that i am satisfied with everything before we can die. We have to leave a legacy for others to remember us by.
But many of us will not be able to fulfill all that we want to do. death comes in many forms and we cannot anticipate its coming. the only thing that we can do is live life to the fullest now so that when it is our time to go, we can look back and be happy of what we have accomplished so far.

I think it is just born into us to be capable of taking care of ourselves, fear is not of God so there is no reason to be afraid have you ever been promised when you were small a spanking and dreaded it but when it was over or ignored?think of the relief when it was over and wasnt nearly what you thought it would be,at that time you might have thought oh no they are going to kill me and it wasnt nothing

because when you're dead you're not...do you really have to ask why people fear death? That it's always close is no comfort.

...for in this sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause....

...but that the dread of something after death, that undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns, puzzles the will...

we fear uncertainty. in everything we do, it is the uncertainty that creates fear.

so its not death itself, but the unknown quantum that it is that we fear. its not the stranger we fear, but the uncertainty of what could happen...

uncertainty is the basis of all fear.
