Who started riding lowriders first latinos or african americans?Explain why...?

I remember seeing low rider competitions way back in the 1960s. (Yes, I'm that old.) It was considered a Puerto Rican thing but that may just be the part of the country I was in. Blacks are relatively new to it. They brought the over-done, flashy, and totally gaudy pimp look to it.

Lowriders wasnt because of the car, it was because of the way they rode in the car. They would break the bucket seats down and ride low, they would also cut the top of the steeringwheels off.

African Americans and whites did in the late 50's, white people and black use to drop them in the back, then whites started dropping the front and ya, they had the money to do it mostly. First called channeling. Then they called it "putting it on a Dago or rake". The black people had a gang called the lowriders and what they did was called channeling. The mexicans then came in and perfected it. Its hard to keep track of history when a certain group takes over something that has been created. Just like certain forms of music today. certail hispanics are trying to take credit for a music form but I wont get into that on here.

I believe a little town up in Northern NM called Espanola is attributed to be the birth of Lowriders. Don't know of a huge black population there, though................

I think it was actually white guys in the early 50's. They had the cars and the jingle with which to fix them up that way.
