Are the laws of the universe, like the various constants, believed to have been determined at the big bang, after it, or are they imposed on every possible reality so that if there were another Big bang they'd come up the same? When did they come into existence, what determined their value, and ae they all linked or independant of eachother?

Nobody knows. It is hoped that the "theory of everything", if one is ever developed, will provide these answers. But the problems in developing such a theory are horrendous, and no one expects much progress anytime soon.

I think I'll disagree with Steve here. I think there are definetly laws of the universe, and there's also the human perception of them. How much the two overlap is another thing.

My opinion is that the laws themself are a direct consequnce of the nature of mater and energy (maybe the same thing??) and that the laws themselves are maybe very few and very simple. The picture about the universe gets more complicated as it gets bigger. The larger the objects, new and more complex laws are observed.

As to whether the universe would turn out the same if another Big Bang occurs, my opinion is that it would probably be very similar (as far as the laws are concerned). Acording to scientists, our universe is around 20 bilion years old (roughly). So an interesting question is what has been happening say for the last trilion years? Probably a lot of Big Bangs, one after another. Mater exploding to be brought back by gravity.
Best regars.

I think your question goes beyond physics and is mainly a matter of beliefs. Using the scientific method, we can only make observations and make theories to explain these observations. We do observe that there are laws and constants that remain the same over the time that we can examine them and assume that they haven't changed since the big bang. We can use mathematics to describe the laws in theories. Everything else is speculation and the opinions on it vary. Personally I have to say that I don't even have an opinion because I honestly have to say that I really don't know and it goes beyond my understanding and imagination.

There are no laws of the universe, only observations by humans as to how how things work and how to predict what will happen in a particular situation.

Hi I agree with your first answer. But remember, without an intelligence to ponder the universe there would not be "laws", only responses to physical force.
