If its that hard change your habits that make you want to smoke or set rules such as only gonna smoke after 6:pm and not during the day do things in the day that take up alot of concentration such as learning something new witch weed will always get in the way of. Find things to do to keep you busy and after a while if you find something you really want to learn or get into that requires real though and not just a body on cruise controll you may draw away from the evil mind destroying weed.

As a retired mental health professional with 20+ years experience counseling substance abuse/dependence issues among others, I can tell you that the best way to quit smoking pot is to quit smoking pot, or, as former First Lady Nancy Reagan became famous for saying, "Just say No!" It is strongly debatable as to whether marijuana is "addictive", and even jolanda_rock's response calls it a "dependency syndrome", which, according to clinical as well as lay interpretation means that it is NOT a true dependency or addiction, but only a facsimile thereof, and can easily be beat, if the user wants to quit. You wanna quit? Quit! God Bless you.

What's the best way to stop smoking pot?

You are describing a rather typical story of marijuana dependency syndrome. Basically, the way it goes is as follows: A young person gets exposed to marijuana. Somewhere around the third or fourth time they smoke it, they will experience an extraordinary high. It appears, in most cases, as though the brain needs to be "primed" to this experience. After that, they will basically say that they "love" the experience of smoking the drug. Then, guess what? They wake up the next day thinking about pursuing that experience again, as though a switch has been thrown making their pursuit of that drug a daily preoccupation.

Most people will end up smoking, on most days, for somewhere between the next one and 20 years. At some point, the individual starts becoming depressed and anxiousPsometimes having panic attacks. In response to thisPas the only way they've known to manage their feeling states has been the use of potPthey will, of course, increase the dose of pot or attempt to use higher potency forms of pot such as hashish. Unfortunately, this fails and the depression become worse. They develop an "amotivational syndrome" where they often have difficulty engaging in actions that they need to complete.

It is important to seek treatment now, because your probability of being able to stop marijuana on your own is essentially zero at this stage. I suggest you seek out a Marijuana Anonymous meeting, since the 12-step model tends to be the most effective way of managing marijuana dependency.

However, in addition to seeking community support, I do think it is extremely important that you see a physician. This is because the incidence of profound depression could be quite high in the first six months of marijuana abstinence. In fact, suicide is a rather common complication. I, myself, have lost patients to suicide during this window. The depression will go away within six months, but may require treatment during that time, and certainly requires supervision.

Chew gum when ever you want to smoke. Try to stop smoking and don't chew gum for a day. If you keep doing that you will probably stop. Maybe........
