It's from an old joke. I'll make it short, new sailor asks what they do for sexual release on board ship, old salt says go down to the hold and put your "peter" in the knot hole of the barrel, great feeling great release. After third time old salt says, not tonight boy, it's your turn in the barrel. So...it being your turn in the barrel, means your going to get shafted.

Your turn for the Barrel is exactly the same as "Golden Rivet" (found in the chain locker where you get wedged in looking for it) and "Navy Cake". They all mean the same which if you are a gay might appeal to you !

It used to be that the Navy and the Marines were NOT separate branches of the military. Some of the answers are because of that distinction. The statement "your turn for the barrel now" refers to punishment. In the old days irregardless of age(just rank), punishment was done by whipping. There were two methods. One was for the bosman to tie you to the mainstay and whip you. The other was to have you literally bend over a barrel(usually gunpowder or flour) and whip your A** until you could hardly move. Let alone sit down for a long time!!

These are euphemisms for buggery.
It is said to new recruits that every ship is built with a golden rivet deep in the hold, "I will show you" They are then taken to a dark, secluded compartment and buggered senseless. Navy Cake is the same. "Your turn in the barrel" means that you have to crawl into a barrel with your naked bottom showing and all the crew will use you as their b*tch.

Actually not navy but could mean two things from Navy past:
1) Climb inside and clean
or
2) being literally bent and tied over the barrel of a cannon and being flogged.
