I have a kind of high pitched feminine sounding voice naturally, but when I sing, I can sing kinda deep...but, I'm getting tired of being called 'maam' on the phone. Is there a way to naturally lower my voice?

I know that speech / voice therapy or training (referring to any non-surgical technique used to improve or modify the human voice) is commonly used for transsexual women as a part of gender transition in order to make their voices sound female, and therefore increase their passability as females in society. I would think the same concept could be used on FTMs. Although it is not very common, I did find a group willing to discuss the use of and efficacy of androgens in FtM voice changes at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/TSVoiceSurgery/

Since the pitch range of our voices is determined by the length and thickness of our vocal cords. Shorter and thinner vocal cords vibrate faster, and result in a higher voice like a child's or a woman's. Longer, thicker vocal cords vibrate more slowly and make a lower voice like a man's. It is true a cold causes the inflammation of the structures around the vocal cords and with the inflammation comes swelling of those structures. And the inflamed, swollen--that is thicker--vocal cords vibrate more slowly than normal, and our voice is lower than it usually is. It might be worth looking into surgery options if therapy and hormones fail.

I'm laughing because I went through exactly this for years! I took sinus meds religiously, hoping to dry out my vocal chords & lower my voice.
Remember the British comedy "Are You Being Served"; how that gay guy would answer the phone with a fake, deep voice..."Men's Wear"?!?!?!
