that shows the spirit of place in "the house on mango street" by sandra cisneros.
i know this is my homework, but i just need ideas or suggestions as to what i should do because i really have no idea.
THANKS!

When I think of House on Mango street, I think of bright colors and Mexican art. Consider making a construction paper collage or something similar. Perhaps you could even make a diorama:

For inspiration, google Mexican artists like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo (you thought Esperanza's life was tough, look up a bio of this woman!), Rufino Tamayo, and one of my lesser-known favorites, Ettore "Ted" de Grazia.

Hmmm, tricky... I guess the most common scenario most people imagine is when two or more people meet on the street, and either due to insults and taunts or a mutual dislike for each other (and also because all parties actually want it) things escalate into a physical altercation. And, well, for people who are still not mature enough to know that a so-called "street fight" is best avoided - heck, the reasons for a fight on the street should be avoided at first - "winning" is of course the most important thing. Walking away from a fight doesn't do much for ones ego. Thus all the questions about how to win a street fight. You know, I always wonder how it would be like for all the hard core and expert street fighters here if they came here, to Indonesia, or some other developing Asian country. Here, a "street fight" usually consists of no less than a dozen angry people with machetes, and the police usually has no interest in intervening. Heck, usually one party is backed by the police. Makes you appreciate all those instructors who preach avoidance and low risk behavior... But, hey, it's the internet! I'm just grateful that in an umoderated forum like Y!A I can see guys like you, Aaron J, Shihan J, nwohioguy, judomofo, pugpaws, and all the other TCs.

How about a large collage -- the book is written in very small chapters -- how about drawing or finding a picture to represent each chapter in the book. As someone else suggested you should, perhaps, check out some Mexican artists also for inspiration -- whatever you do -- do make it bright and colorful.

What about a sculpture with text from the book? It could be a house form or a whole street... I like the idea of paper mache, too.
