My wife uses Mac, I use PC. whereas I spend time and money on security I find that it is cheaper in the long run, and having a profile on her IMac does give me the best of both worlds. As for being Safer, OS X has a built in firewall as does windows, but it is true that 99.9% of all viruses are designed for Windows, because all the creeps and weirdos out there hate Bill Gates for some reason.

mac are only pc's now adays (same parts). Only difference is the OS. Mac X is bascally a form of linux (unix). A pc with linux is just as stable and supports multiple cpus with no issues. Macs seem to be more expensive only because of the extra things thrown into it (some aren't even used by a few people).
For being "safer" for the internet, a typical anti-virus, spyware, firewall are used. Firefox is a browser that's harder to crack. And Mac OS X and Linux operating systems are very hard to crack, but OS X programs/games are much harder to get, linux only has some support (and some free programs), windows is the common and very easy to find programs/games for it.

Indeed it is cheaper and safer out in the WWW(ild)...
There are no viruses until today for Mac OS X and no spywares like the hundreds you can find on Windows.

You will spend less time doing maintenance and more time working/enjoying the features of your computer.
I have been using a Mac for *two years and a half* and I had to reinstall only a couple weeks ago probably because of my mistake and bad handling.

You can find loads of free or cheap neat software for all needs.

Yes, after it's all said and done, Macs are cheaper. Most of the software you'll ever need is already included with every new Mac. You're also paying for superior hardware and design. A Macintosh will save you more money and time over it's life-span than any PC. Macs also have excellent resale value compared to PCs.

Thing is if you thinking about the vs. between mac and pc, remember there are a lot of sites out there that are not mac friendly so the websites are missing things and all confused. PC's are for play and some work and on line. A Mac is for work work and more work. PC's need a lot of stuff once you buy them, a Mac is simple. Just think about what your going to be using it for and go from there.

Choosing which OS to get depends on what your gonna do.

Macintosh OSX:
Macintosh is great for all the fun and family time stuff, also macintosh does not have as many games as windows does. What i mean by all the fun stuff is:
You can Video Chat
Edit videos/Make Videos + Add Special Effects Windows Movie maker doesnt have.
In iPhoto You can take care of all your family photos and all other kinds of pictures.

Windows XP/Windows Vista:
There are alot of games out for windows XP,but you need to get high-end systems to play those really really hot games. Otherwise your system will fail.
Windows does have moive maker which i guess was added to combat the movie editing apps that Macintosh has.
Windows is also great for answering this question, browsing the internet, and also REALLY GREAT for bussiness stuff.

Windows XP Media Center:
This is still windows XP with all the fun stuff like:
*Watching TV
*Pause,Fast foward,Rewind,Record LIVE TV.
* You can use your computer as a DVR system.
* You can also listen to the radio.

IT all depends on what your going to do on your computer, for me its either Windows Vista or Macintosh OS X Leopard (Leopard is comming out soon, and so is vista) I still can choose just yet.

Who pays for a firewall, antivirus, spy- and ad-ware programs for PC's? With all the good, free software available, paying for these utility programs is vanity. I have Comodo firewall, protects me both incoming and outgoing, Ad-Aware, SpBot, Avast
Antivirus and clean my computer every day after prolonged running about in Yahoo. Is that work? I consider it computer maintenance and it's well worth it. I used a Mac at work, and it was great for graphics and the things I used it for, but 80% or more of the software is written for PC's. Pay your money and take your choice.

i appreciate my sort Micro computer-Cillin protection, it consistently updates and blocks/notifies me of incomming threats. this is going to also do commonplace scans and get rid of secret agent ware. i have had norton earlier, in no way loved the way it ran on the device, ended up with an endemic even tho it change into consistently conserving. I did inspite of the indisputable fact that like the way it had a disc which i might want to apply contained in the kind of an endemic to restart and test my computing gadget earlier abode windows and different records were loaded. Mcafee is likewise a superb application to apply, I had it in my early computing gadget days and it worked wonderful, I merely have not used it in over 5 years so i'm not particular how the more moderen variations are doing.

there is lots of free software out that is the exception to the "you get what you pay for" rule
don't believe me?
check out http://download.com

But I do agree, It seems as though Macs are immune to the common Internet threats
But then again the grass is not always greener on the other side
