They dont actually "eat" but they get thier nourishment from the egg yolk and the egg white.

Excerpts from Wikipedia...
An egg yolk is the part of an egg which serves as the food source for the developing embryo inside. The egg whites primary purpose is to protect the egg yolk and also to provide additional nutrition for the growth of the embryo, as it is rich in proteins and is of high nutritional value.
In the oviparous animals (all birds, most fishes, amphibians and reptiles) the ova develop protective layers and pass through the oviduct to the outside of the body. They are fertilized by male sperm either inside the female body (as in birds), or outside (as in many fishes). After fertilization, an embryo develops, nourished by nutrients contained in the egg. It then hatches from the egg, outside the mother's body. See egg (biology) for a discussion of eggs of oviparous animals.

A small point of correction, since you've already had the correct answer several times over - human babies don't get food through the umbilical cord as such, except from the placenta. This is nourished through the lining of the womb, but not with "food" as such. To that extent the yolk acts in the same way as the human placenta.

if u look at the functions of an egg when its not hatched, yould notice that the yolk is already filled with all the nutrients it needs for the time the birdie is in the egg. the white part is just like the shock absorber it prevents the birds from getting hurt or feeling any sudden jolt.

I even have heard vegans say that commercial honey hurts the bees no longer because of the fact honey is hurting bees yet because of the fact the way commercial bee hives are equipped it injures their wings. i do no longer comprehend if it is real or no longer. The eggs are not toddler chicks, however the way that animals are saved in captivity to place eggs bothers some human beings, they de-beak extremely some the hens, yet no longer all farms do this. some human beings circumvent animal products thoroughly so as that no animals are domesticated soley to be or produce foodstuff for the guy.

the yolk contains all the necessary nutrients. Just before hatching they consume the remainder of the contents in the egg. They may well regurgitate this later

That's what the yolk is for, it provides the food supply for the baby.
