When I got my apple-laptop I got a set of 4-cds with it which were to restore the settings. As you bought yours previously owned I'm not sure if you would have those cds. But if you did get the cds than you just need to go through the procedure of running those in order and than it would be just like brand new. You will have to add any extra programs that you want that don't come with the puter.
Good luck with restoring it.

If you received the Mac Restore (or System Install) discs with the Powerbook, you can pop them in and select the Mac OS X Reinstall icon.
If you didn't get the discs, you should grab a copy of Mac OS X system disc and do a full Installation (selecting Initialize and Install during the guided procedure).

Welcome to Mac world :-)
