I've researched a bit into this and I know a cat needs it's whiskers for balance and to sense what kind of spaces it can fit through...but I met a woman the other day who had a single whisker of her beloved cat in her locket.
I'm wondering if it will hurt her to snip one, not close to her nose to put in mine.
I heard a lot of negative thoughts on it, is it really such torture for her? She likes when I run the back of my finger along her whiskers, should I just wait and hope one falls off?

As for you "Ihatephillcollins", Going to report me to the SPCA are you? And what are you going to tell them? "Uhhh, some girl wants to carry around a symbol of her cat around with her and so she asked around to make sure something like that was safe...GET HER"
Don't assume you know anything about my habits in taking care of my cat. I love her, and I spoil her. She has already comandeered two of my christmas presents, and I bake her fresh home made treats about once a month.
You should learn not to jump down people's throats.

Yes, just wait until one falls out.
It would not hurt the cat to cut it but why do that when you can wait and get the entire whisker, root and all.
Many 'hairless' cats, like the sphynx & peterbald, do not have wiskers at all, or very few.

That is so cute, the whisker in her locket, she much love her kitty a lot. About half of one , close to the end will not hurt, it will grow back, but I certainly would not do it but one time. Cats whiskers are very important as you have stated. Just a small piece close to the end.

Clipping a part of one whisker from your cat will not harm or disorient it in any way. Cat's whiskers constantly break off and regrow. Despite any old wives tales, you are risking no harm to your cat by clipping a whisker. How wonderful that your cat means so much to you. Other pet owners should be so loving and responsible!

I wouldn't do it. It IS painful if you snip one, even if it isn't close to the muzzle. If you want something to remember it by, take some fur. But if you want a whisker, just wait. I found one in my kitchen.
If you have a scratching post or a pet bed, look for them there. Good luck finding one.

You can do either of the two. Leave it as it is or trim it down. I have two cats and sometimes they tend to get too close to the fireplace and get their whiskers just a little bit fried. In the mean time, while their whiskers grow back, they're getting around just fine.

I wouldn't snip it, but whiskers do fall off often. Just search around and I bet you can find one that she lost. Besides, its good luck to find a cat's whisker!

Dont snip one off her! That will distress your kitty. You could search around to see if you could find one though. They drop off all the time.

why would you snip her whiskers. i wish i had a way to report you to spca!!
that woman you met is a freak too.
if you really love your cat, feed her and take care of her and buy her treats from petco. dont cut off a part of her and wear it.
