i hear all the time that 100% cotton can shrink with ease. It seems logical that something 97% cotton would shrink as well, but i'm thinking maybe that 3% of spandex might hold it together.

Yes,you can.Wash the garment in very hot water and then dry on high heat,if you want it to shrink.Do the oppisite if you don't want it to shrink.

It still shrinks. The spandex is just to ensure that the garment will stretch when worn.

Usually with that much cotton, it will shrink

cotton shrinks...keep it out of the dryer, that does the most shrinking

it will shrink a little bit...but not as much as 100% cotton.
if it's too large...you might as well exchange it for a smaller size.

it'll shrink some. i know this from all my abercrombie clothes.

yeaa, definitly. those 3% are rarely anything.
