Call the SS office on Tuesday and see what is going on. I would venture to say they realized you were underpaid at some point, and these are your checks to cash.

First let me say when you apply you will be turned down and need to get a Lawyer . Trust me it took me 8 years to get mine . And mine was for things more serious and Life Threatening too. Anyway , I know that it is very hard to get it for those reasons as they do not affect your physical side as much as say Cancer . Yes they are very real issues , cause I have 3 children who are Bipolar and ODD too. And one has Severe Asthma also , since she was 16 months old . I just want you to be prepared for all the paperwork and all the run around and you have strict income limits too. Just be prepared for all the stress , cause it will be stressful and Don't Give Up keep on reappling even if you get turned down . Use a SSI specialized Lawyer if you get a Denial Letter . They can help you with the next steps in getting the SSI . And make sure you see the Doctor on a regular basis , cause that will help you a great deal also . And continue even after you get approved , cause they are real strict about doing it. I know I have to see my Doctor once a month in order to keep mine and I've been doing this for 10 years now . I wish you luck . Let us know what happens for you.

Most people that receive SS or SSI disability get a check each Month, you said for a year. Call your SS department and ask them what the checks were for, they will tell you, and be sure to clarify the amounts you will receive. You might want to consider a direct deposit, that way your check will never be held up by mail, or if you are out of town you would have access to your funds.

DO NOT cash them!!!!!!!!!! I work with mentally and physically disabled individuals and deal with their SSI and SSA prctically everyday. Deposit them. DO NOT spend the money. Anywhere from a few months or even a year from now, they will come bak and say they have overpaid you and want the money back. This happes all the time to the people I take care of. They get the money and spend it, thinking that it's ok. Then they get a letter saying tey have been overpaid and they want the money back. Do not send it back, because then they will think you do not need the money. Deposit the moey in the bank and do not spend it. Hope that helps!

JUST GUESSING HERE
I would deposit it and just wait to see what happens without spending it.
If it is a mistake, you better believe that they will find out about it without you saying a word.

with that said, my guess is that there was a delay between the time when you applied and the time when your benefits started to come in
so lets say you applied 10/29, maybe they are paying you for the few days in october for the smaller one
then all of the next month in the other
I dunno

i would try to check it out. mistakes are made all the time. if you could call someone and see why this happened that would be best. it could be was is owed to you. but if not and you cash it, they could ask for it back with penalties expected or something like that.

No experience with SSI. Should you visit a SSI office in person and show them?

maybe its a rebate or something
when somebody overpays you, unless you can point to exactly who its gonna hurt, just keep it
like a cashier might get docked or something so I always give the change back to her
in this case, maybe they will ask for it back, 5%, probably not though
