Thanks to all who have contributed with an answer to my earlier question on SAD and beating the darstardly winter blues.

It isn't about finance with regards to buying a light box....I was just hoping that there would be something a little more straight forward out there that perhaps some of you had already come across?

There are an overwhelming number of you who use these light boxes though...so I will be giving one a go.

Please though...if you do have any other ideas....let me (and all the other sufferers out there as there are many) know! Thanks.

P.S Moving to a warm bright and sunny country is on my wish list!!

Thanks Taz C! I'll hold you to that one!!! It's a nice idea and the motivation to get out to the shop to buy a lotto ticket is inspiring!! (or can you buy them online now? !!!)

Thanks for all your answers.....

.....I ventured out today....it was (and still is) cold, wet, windy and now it's dark too and I am snuggled up in bed with my clothes on and a pot of tea typing this from my laptop! (it's not even 4pm yet!!). I'm glad I went out earlier though, but it took some effort!

I'm going to order a light box now..... :-)

Sounds silly, but...the sun causes your body to make vitamin D.
So, add vitamin D to your vitamin regime; along with some St. john's Wart & a good multi.
Also, try to get out of the house at LEAST twice weekly. I used to live in Alaska, & back then, it was called Cabin Fever. Getting out was one of the treatments.

OHHHH i know how you feel. Every Winter is like a death sentence to me. Usually during Summer i am never at home i walk through the forest with my dogs and even spend hours there just sitting on the grass and relaxing.Winter i read, always have a lamp on so my sitting-room looks lovely and warm and i keep myself busy. It is horrible outside the wind is blowing the fence between the neighbours yard and ours has blown over but fortunately for us it is there side and they told us they will be fixing it.:) But yes, Winter is awful but it is the same in S-Africa too, that makes me feel better. I wish you joy and just read, watch tele, watch dvd's and use Questions and Answers for a break. Good luck and Have a Happy New Year :)))

I did not see your original question but i would like to suggest daylight bulbs, they are blue in colour and you can mainly buy them in art and craft shops, my mum has sads and she swears by these, she has them all over the house, they mimic natural daylight. I Have painted the rooms in my house ( well one wall in some rooms) a bright and vibrant colour to keep sads at bay, everybody that comes to my home says how bright and cheerful it makes them feel. Hope i have helped in some way, i do feel for you as i know how debilitating this condition can be.

This may sound strange but you have to accept that you live in a cold country, prepare your body for the change of weather in September, go to a good independent health food store and ask for vit and min supplement's and herbal teas, they can suggest you take for the warm to cold changes. From my experience and I used to suffer, learn to dress warm, maybe treat yourself to a sauna or steam one day a week or fortnightly.
Take walks in the cold air but put on a hat, scarf and gloves and and breathe deeply. It is a real experience believe me.

You can beat the winter blues by learning to lov ewinter. or by moving toa warmer climax.
You can also learn to do things in the winter. Meet new people spend some time in the liberary. Read a bood at home. Chat online and meet new people.
If you are married or have a girlfriend than have sex. If not meet people whom you can have sex with, fun with, and enjoy.

Spend time doing things you like and with people you like.
