An ipod is a type of mp3 player. The Ipod was originally suppose to just be an mp3 player, but now that Apple has seen how big it's gotten, they tweeked it a bit so now it plays videos, has a calandar, games, and a lot of other stuff that most mp3 players can't do. Part of the reason that the ipod is so popular and not just like others is for its appearance. Also, because it's from the Apple company, which means it has beauty and publicity.

An iPod is an mp3 player.
An mp3 player is a device that will hold and store and playback a music file, most commonly an mp3 file, although most, including iPod can handle a range of different file formats.
Also, I love my iPod, but if you're considering buying one, do some researching, I don't think any are better than others, it depends on what you're going to use if for.

I-Pod is a particular brand of mp3 player. All ipods are mp3 players, but all mp3 players are not ipods.

Yeah like everyone is saying it's an mp3 player made by apple. Also if you are looking into getting one, id go w/ the mp3 player. The sansa e200 line is great!
1. It's cheaper in price
2. It does the same as an ipod
3. You get the enitial gb storage, but there is also a micro sd slot which enables you to expand your gb storage

An iPod is a brand of MP3 player, BUT they are not interchangable.
Basically all of them can play MP3s that you rip from your own CD collection, but they also have other formats, which are usually machine-specific (or at least the embedded DRM--digital rights management--is machine-specific).
If you buy songs from iTunes, you can only play them on your iPod. From the Zune store, on your Zune. If you subscribe to Napster, Yahoo music, etc, you need a plays-for-sure device, which is basically everything else.

ipods are the newer version of MP3 players, they hold less songs, but are much smaller & slimmer. MP3 hold a lot of songs & they are bigger.
