Hi,

I recently went into a music store.. and the dude tried to sell me all this computer equipment.. which was expensive.. and which had no strings.. and little other than a keyboard.. and a boz of computer disks.. he told me it was what everyone was doing these days..

I thought.. Hmmm.. how strange!!

I've devoted my life ot learning to read and write music.. to compose.. and also to learn ot play numerous instruments.. NOW I'm being told.. throw it all out the window.. a computer does it all..

Is this for real??

OR are we being fed YET ANOTHER lie here?? another big money spinner for someone..

I mean how can you ever perform with a computer.. and where is the creative merit to using a pre-arranged sequence and set of patches to produce your music?? Doesnt that make music production DEFUNCT since now ANYONE can do it!!

I mean take techno music.. a blind man can arrange a song using programs like "Fruity Loops" ..

Is this killing musicianship??

Sounds to me ( no pun intended ! ) like he was looking to unload some stock he couldn't get rid of. Whether it be sampled or played on a real instrument, the ability to read, write ,and play play music will last just as long as we do. No one goes to a concert just to watch a group of people plunk away at a keyboard. No matter how good the technology gets it will never be able to replicate the sound of an instrument 100% because of the human element involved in the playing style of any given artist.

personally...computers are great for electronica and stuff such as Nine Inch Nails, the Deftones, or Marilyn Manson, but if you look back at the most memeorable music, the great stuff that changed music history like The Doors, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, and so on, what made it great and groundbreaking was the Raw tones, because it wasnt synthetic..it was real, and the artists knew their instruments and really made MUSIC this other stuff is just stuff to listen to...noise...if you really have a pssion for music..LEARN it KNOW it like the back of your hand...that is what makes music MUSIC...not just noise...computers only work to an extent...like for instance, nowadays, music can make your whole vioce synthetic...britney spear's voice is covered by computer on stage the mess ups are covered by computer but the question is, will we remember it in 10 years?? what makes it so great??....so i applaud you if you really have a passion for music like that and i encourge you to make it real, raw...make MUSIC, not just sound because its popular or cool....
